Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre) and Shiraz are natural blending partners. They both have a long history in Australia where they are often combined with Grenache to make a GSM, one of the world’s most popular red wine blends. In those blends, Mataro usually plays a supporting role. With this limited release we omit the Grenache and bring bold and brooding Mataro to the forefront, showcasing its delicious black fruit flavours, high tannin, and smoky, earthy flavours. Fruit-forward Shiraz enhances the dark fruit and adds notes of chocolate and peppery spice, creating a delicious bold blend full of Australian attitude.
FLAVOUR PROFILE Rich flavours of blackberry, plum, and black currant underscored with notes of chocolate, savoury nuances of dried herbs, pepper, and light smoke. FOOD PAIRING This bold wine pairs well with rich foods. Try it with beef short ribs, pork shoulder, gyros, portabello mushroom burgers, ratatouille, charcuterie or firm aged cheeses.
